STUDENTS

I am Graduate Faculty in the Departments of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences and Environmental Sciences at Oregon State University. In these roles, I am able to supervise undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students. I can also serve on student committees. Interested in working with me in these areas? Please send me a brief description of your interests, a CV or resume, and proposed funding plan (if applicable). Please note I do not have funding currently available to support a student, so a proposed funding plan describing external funding sources is necessary for prospective students.

Maddie English, MSc
PhD student, OSU

I am a marine ecologist interested in how environmental factors shape the population dynamics, foraging ecology, and behavior of marine predators. I recently earned an M.Sc. in Fisheries Science from Oregon State University, where I studied microplastic ingestion in salmon sharks. I am currently a Ph.D. student in the Big Fish Lab at OSU, where my research focuses on the movements and behaviors of basking sharks in and around Irish waters.

Olivia Cleek
Professional Science Master’s student, OSU

I am a Professional Science Master’s (PSM) student in Environmental Science with a focus on fisheries and applied conservation. My background as a professional aquarist in Southern California has provided me with hands-on experience in endangered species recovery, specifically with local marine species like White Abalone and Sunflower Stars. I am highly interested in utilizing innovative, quantitative techniques to advance conservation efforts. I am currently working with Dr. McInturf to explore alternative methods for data collection on basking sharks. This work focuses on using social media posts and citizen science data to track the presence and spatial distribution of basking sharks along the west coast of North America.
